Paolo Spinelli received the Dr. Eng. degree in chemical engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 1968, where started his scientific and teaching activity. Presently he is full professor of Applied Physical Chemistry.
He co-authored more than 150 papers in the field of applied Electrochemistry. He is responsible of the research group “Electrochemistry” at the Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering of Politecnico di Torino and co-ordinates various research projects on electrochemical energy conversion. He was one of the founders of the Hy_Sy_Lab (Hydrogen System Laboratory). He is a member of the Working Party of "Electrochemical Engineering" of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering. He is a member of the Electrochemical Society, of the International Society of Electrochemistry, of the Società Chimica Italiana. He has been a member of the International Advisory Board of the "Centre of Excellence on Portable and Emergency Energy Sources (POEMES)".
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Politecnico di Torino from 1992 to 1999 and headed the Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering from 2003 to 2007.
Prof. Spinelli has a remarkable experience both as a researcher and a professor in the field of Electrochemistry. He is the head of the “Electrochemistry” research group at Politecnico di Torino and has the responsibility of various research projects in collaboration with Hy_Sy_Lab, Gas Turbine Technologies, Edison S.p.A. concerning different aspects of electrochemical energy conversion. He co-ordinates the projects “Investigation on the improvement of MEAs electrodes for low temperature fuel cells” and “Design and in-house development of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) stacks for dealing with multiple fuels” both funded by Regione Piemonte. In the last five years he managed research funding for more than 800,000 Euros.
