Massimo Viviani has a permanent researcher position at the National Research Council (CNR), Institute for Energetics and Interphases, Genova Department. He obtained his PhD at the University of Genova in 1998. The scientific activity of Massimo Viviani has developed in the field of Materials Science and coherently with his background in Physics and Materials Science & Technology. During the last 15 years his attention was devoted to various classes of materials, from intermetallic superconductors to steels and ceramics, becoming acquainted with most of the preparation and characterisation techniques. He was involved in several research projects at the Institute of Energetics and Interphases of the National Research Council, dealing mainly with the chemical aqueous synthesis of nanopowders, forming and sintering of ceramics, electrical characterisation (by Impedance Spectroscopy) of ferroelectrics and ion conducting oxides. Among his international co-operations, the most important are those with the Polytechnic School in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEES) and Industrial Research Limited in Wellington (New Zealand). In 2005 he was coordinator of a FP6-STREP proposal (NEMOLOTS, not funded) on proton conducting fuel cells and in 2006 has been awarded by ESF for the organisation of an Exploratory Workshop on Proton Conducting Materials for Next-Generation Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. Massimo Viviani is co-author of about 60 papers in international journals, about 80 presentations to International Conferences and operates as referee for few Journals in the field of ceramics and ferroelectrics.
